Galaxy IC 310
Video Projection on Layered Fabric
Installation at AlterLandEscape, Aggregate Space Gallery
Oakland, CA
2015
Galaxy IC 310 is a galaxy in the Perseus constellation that emits lightning-like emissions from the black hole at its center. Black Holes are commonly thought of as devouring, inescapable entities that destroy everything in their wake. Yet, somewhere in our universe, there is at least one that has light shining out from the abyss.
Galaxy IC 310 is also an installation by Centa Schumacher that captures light sources through a quartz crystal specifically charged for healing and personal transformation. The piece has a video projected onto layered transparent fabric, resulting in a tripled, layered piece accompanied by audio tracks from the Voyager Golden Record and other NASA audio archives. -
